Pathway to Surgery
The path to surgery follows a planned course to make it easier for you. We work with you to ensure that you are preparing for bariatric surgery through the stages. Below are the stages in the order they occur:
Commitment to Yourself. We encourage everyone to make a personal pledge, as you prepare for bariatric surgery, to make healthy choices that will benefit long-term health.
Attend an Information Seminar. Meet the team, learn about the surgical options and have your questions answered.
Initial Consultation. Have a face-to-face consultation with the surgeon and make a decision together about the surgical procedure that’s right for you. Prior to this visit you will need to check if your health insurance company offers bariatric surgery coverage for you.
Preparation. During this stage, there are diagnostic tests and specialist referrals that are done to ensure that you are ready for bariatric surgery and that allow for insurance approval. We may need to start some treatments based on the results of the diagnostic tests. Patients are encouraged to practice lifestyle changes that will help towards long-term success.
Pre-Authorization. Once all tests and referrals are concluded our office will get approval from your insurance company to proceed with surgery. Once we have approval, we will work with you to plan a date for your bariatric surgery.
Pre-Surgery Visit. You meet with your surgeon approximately 2 weeks before surgery to go over necessary instructions and review what to expect at the time of surgery.
Planned Surgery. You undergo bariatric surgery as previously discussed.
Life After Surgery. Start of a new journey.
